Greene County water customers now have access to softer water, thanks to a $40 million upgrade to the county’s water facilities. After resolving initial technical issues, the county successfully transitioned to softer water between January and March 2025, reducing hardness from 27 to 8 grains per gallon. This change affects over 18,000 customers in several communities including Beavercreek, parts of Kettering and Centerville, and various townships, writes Dayton Daily News.
Residents can now choose to stop using their home water softeners or recalibrate them to the new hardness level. The water upgrades are part of the broader Greene Forward initiative, which will now shift focus to wastewater improvements over the next seven years. Work is already underway on projects in Clifton and Beavercreek.
