Greene County is in the process of softening its tap water through reverse osmosis, reducing hardness from 27 grains per gallon to about 8 grains per gallon. The transition, expected to be completed by March, will help minimize mineral buildup in pipes and appliances, saving residents money and reducing the need for water softeners, write WDTN Channel 2 News.
“As we’ve started softening last week, we’re actually going to be telling customers to don’t do anything with your softeners yet,” said Mark Chandler with Greene County Sanitary Engineering. “We would notify you when it’s time, when we get to our target level of hardness, we will be publicizing and we will be reaching out to our customers.”
